If one were to imagine the most ill-fated ship in history, Kamchatka would surely claim a place on the podium.

This collier, displacing over 7,000 tons, was laid down in 1901. During the Russo-Japanese War, she was assigned to the Second Pacific Squadron. The poor training of her crew led to numerous incidents during the voyage.

The most famous of these was the Dogger Bank incident, when Kamchatka’s crew reported sighting Japanese torpedo boats (sic!), prompting the Russian squadron to open fire on… British fishing vessels. Many were damaged, one was sunk, fishermen were killed, and even sailors aboard the cruiser Aurora – which also came under fire – suffered casualties. The crew of Kamchatka repeatedly continued to report attacks by supposed Japanese torpedo boats.

When a steam pipe burst aboard the ship, the crew reported that she was sinking.

During a funeral salute, the crew mistakenly loaded live ammunition – the fired shell reportedly struck the cruiser Aurora.

While anchored near Madagascar, some crew members brought venomous snakes and other animals aboard, which escaped and roamed the ship’s interior…

Her ultimate fate was no kinder – Kamchatka was sunk during the Battle of Tsushima. Thus ended the story of the most thoroughly disgraced vessel of the squadron.

The models in the set are resin, 3D printed and can be damaged if not handled properly. All models are unpainted. Glue and paints are not included. Contains small parts and is not intended for use by children under 14 years of age.
