SMS Albatross was the sister ship of SMS Nautilus.

Her keel was laid down in 1907, and she was commissioned in May 1908. Her sister ship, Nautilus, had been started earlier in 1905 and was launched in March 1907.

These ships displaced around 2,500 tons, with their primary armament consisting of only eight 8.8 cm guns (the Germans measured gun calibres in centimetres rather than millimetres). They could reach a speed of 20 knots. However, neither speed nor armament was their greatest advantage.

Albatross and Nautilus were minelaying cruisers! Albatross could carry up to 288 mines, while Nautilus carried slightly fewer but still an impressive number. To better showcase the mines on the model, we decided to create a model of Albatross, but in the game, she represents both ships as a class.

Due to the sheer number of mines, this type of ship will have the "mines" trait permanently assigned, meaning she can lay a minefield without needing to purchase the ability (as other ships do). However, if additional mines are purchased, she will be able to lay two minefields – and counting decoy mines, up to four markers!

This seemingly under-armed ship can have a huge tactical impact, making her extremely valuable for all players commanding Kaiserliche Marine. And besides that, she’s a beautiful and fascinating model! :)

The models in the set are resin, 3D printed and can be damaged if not handled properly. All models are unpainted. Glue and paints are not included. Contains small parts and is not intended for use by children under 14 years of age.
